Word from the Tutor

Dear members of The Podium,
firstly, congratulations on making it through your promos in one piece and good luck for your MT and PW exams. I thought I should let all of you know that I'm extremely proud of you guys and I think that you've been absolutely great to work with. As most of you know, this is the first time I've ever been in charge of a CCA and it's really not as easy as it looks as most of you would know by now. This has got to be the most challenging CCA by far because our chances to shine are rare and this CCA, unlike the sports/outdoor kind, offers opportunity to the individual most of the time and not to the group. Despite that, I wanted to make sure that you guys still manage to put aside your differences and work together as one and maybe when you leave the school, you'll take with you beautiful memories and lasting friendships. The Podium has always had a tradition of attracting the really brilliant and the really strange people which is probably why I like it so much. Initially, I thought it was going to be difficult to get this CCA in order but I've been very blessed to have a most brilliant and reliable President and a dedicated and enthusiastic Vice-President to help me out. I'm really thankful for the both of you and for my fantastic EXCO as well. You guys have really managed this CCA very well and I do hope that you were able to learn more about yourselves in the process. I am of course grateful also to the members of The Podium. Thank you for putting up with my quirks and madness. You've been a great bunch and I do hope that you'll continue to support The Podium and your leaders by being the best that you can be.

Secondly, it has been my goal to pull The Podium out of its slump and to market it as an elite CCA because I believe that we have the best young minds around and we should definitely make sure that everyone else knows it too. We have flare, daring and we're abuzz with creativity that's dying for an outlet. This is why next year I would like to propose organising a drama and debate camp. We could have them on concurrently or on 2 separate occasions. The purpose of the camp is to expose more people to our two main functions and to discover any new talents especially among the year ones who'll be coming in. I want to also try looking for more drama workshops if you guys are keen, on writing and directing, stage management, make-up and some acting classes as well. I'm also thinking of organising trips to catch plays either by other JCs or Universities to give you some experience in that area. Next year will be a tough year since most of you will be preparing for your 'A' levels so it'll take a lot of discipline to get things going but I don't want to force anyone into it because that way, you won't have any fun and CCAs are supposed to be about having fun. So, that's all I want to say for now, I'll see you guys soon. Do think about what you want out of this CCA and let me know what I can do to help make it happen.

Love,
Miss Ni
